Creating a Mocha Frappachino From Scratch at Burger King - Innovation Case Study

Have you ever been traveling and notice that all the stores and places you are use to going to do not exist in the middle of nowhere on your road trip? Well, guess what you need to join the Customer Service customization charisma club. Here is how it works.

First you need to understand the principles behind the award winning book; "Winning Without Intimidation" and then let the sky be the limit. How so you ask? Well, the other day while I was on a road trip, I could not find a Starbucks to satisfy my craving for a White Mocha Frappachino. With 8500 plus stores (that was in their annual report 2-years ago) you would think that Starbucks is everywhere. They almost are and probably have over 10,000 stores now for all I know.

The point is it is a tough life and sometimes you need to improvise and adapt, which is what I had too do. I saw a Burger King and went in to get a White Mocha Frappachino, I knew this was my only chance in the next 150 miles and I was on a mission. I was very nice to the girl at the counter to see if she could help me with my dilemma. After explaining all the options to me, even suggesting that I mix a couple, other employees started to brainstorm.

Finally, three employees, plus the manager were all working together in a miniature ad hoc Think Tank at Burger King. We figured it out. They had me order a Mocha Iced Coffee and filled it up two-thirds, then they left out the ice and put in soft cone ice cream. I stirred it around as instructed by one of the employees and was chosen to do the ultimate taste test. It was simply awesome.

Sometimes many minds are better than one, each of us had our minds working on a problem. And out walks a very happy customer - Me!
